50/50 chance Chad may play against Philly

October 13th, 2003
Coach Herman Edwards addressed the media today at his Monday press conference following the Jets 30-3 victory over the Bills yesterday. Coach Herman Edwards addressed the media today at his Monday press conference following the Jets 30-3 victory over the Bills yesterday.

One of the hottest topics of the day was QB Chad Pennington’s timetable for return to action. After several published reports last week indicated that Pennington may return as the starter on October 26 vs. Philadelphia, Edwards indicated that there is a possibility it could happen. “I’d say 50/50” was the Coach’s answer when directly asked of Pennington’s chances of starting that game.

He then went on to say that there is also a chance Chad may be active against Houston but won’t start the game. “It's different with practicing and having to play in the football game," Edwards said. "For me, I don't know if it's his hand, but it's more of his conditioning. Where is he at? Playing a game is different than seven-on-seven. As he goes on during the week, we'll see where he's at.”

The Jets secondary is hurting. Already reeling with the loss of CB Donnie Abraham, both FS Jon McGraw (sore shoulder) and CB Jamie Henderson (sprained knee) were both injured against the Bills and are listed as doubtful for Houston.

Newly acquired CB Leonard Myers also banged up his right shoulder and is sore but will likely be available. McGraw is scheduled for an MRI today to see if there is any extensive damage. Safeties Tyrone Carter and rookie Derek Pagel will both see action if McGraw can’t go. Rookie LB Victor Hobson also has sore ribs but should be ready to go by Sunday.
