After an MRI was performed yesterday to examine a strained groin, the Jets have determined that DE John Abraham will miss Sunday’s game against the Giants. Jets Insider has also learned that suspended DT Josh Evans may be back soon.

Abraham was injured during the Eagles game on Sunday after recording 3 ˝ sacks. The two-time Pro Bowl player has six sacks this season, three behind team-leader Shaun Ellis.

Abraham missed the 30-3 win over Buffalo on Oct. 12 after Coach Herm Edwards deactivated him following a drunken driving arrest.

Bryan Thomas, the Jets first-round draft pick in 2002, will start in place of Abraham. Rookie DE Matt Walters will also be activated and could see some playing time. The Jets lead the NFL with 26 sacks this season.

Abraham joins CB Donnie Abraham and S Jon McGraw on the out list. Donnie Abraham broke his right shoulder against the Miami Dolphins in September and McGraw, partially dislocated his right shoulder against Buffalo. The exact length of Abraham’s absence has not yet been determined but it could be several weeks.

LB Mo Lewis is questionable for the Giants game with a sore hip. Lewis also underwent an MRI exam, but the results were negative. If he cannot play, rookie Victor Hobson will start in his place.

Jets Insider.com has learned that suspended DT Josh Evans will be evaluated early next week and should be re-instated to play against the Raiders on November 9th. Evans was suspended in the pre-season for missing a mandatory drug test that stemmed from an earlier drug suspension. The Jets could surely use Evans’ run stopping ability.
