Jets beat Raiders in OT 27-24

Despite another awful performance by the Jets defense, the Chad Pennington/Santana Moss show rallied the Jets to an overtime win at the Black Hole.

Down by eight point late in the game, Pennington threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jerald Sowell with 1:09 left and completed the 2-point conversion pass to Anthony Becht to force overtime. Doug Brien then made up for his misgivings of last week by kicking a 39-yard field goal in the extra period to win the game

For Pennington, the win was especially gratifying. He had one of his worst outings in New York's 30-10 playoff loss to the Raiders 10 months ago that propelled Oakland into the AFC championship game.

The Jets sent the Raiders to their fifth straight loss despite an admirable job by quarterback Rick Mirer and an overpowering running attack that staked the Raiders to a 21-10 lead.

Pennington went 18-for-27 for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He fumbled three times, but the Jets (3-6) recovered each one. They recovered some confidence, too, after the worst start in coach Herman Edwards' tenure. Santana Moss had another excellent game by catching six passes for 146

The Jets running game struggled in the first half by gaining only 12 yards but rallied in the second half and overtime by rushing for 143 yards.

The Raiders exploited the Jets bad run defense by rushing for 169 yards in the game. During the Raiders first posession they ran the ball 19 consecutive times, did not attempt a pass and moved the ball 80 yards for a TD.

Raiders QB Rick Mirer also had a notable performance after making his first start since playing for the Jets in 1999. Mirer completed 18 of 25 passes for 186 yards with 1 TD and no INTís.

The Jets now travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts. The last time the Jets played the Colts, the Jets won 41-0 in the first round of last yearís playoffs.
