Jets WR Wayne Chrebet’s worse case scenario came into play today as the Jets announced he has been placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the season.
Chrebet, in his ninth season with the Jets suffered a concussion November 2 against the New York Giants and missed last week’s game at Oakland. For the season, Chrebet caught 27 passes for 289 yards and one touchdown. Chrebet ranks second on the Jets’ career receptions list with 534 career catches and third in receiving yardage with 6,815, and has caught 40 touchdown passes in 128 career games.
Chrebet’s long term prognosis is not yet known but after several concussions during his career, there is the possibility that he may be forced to retire. Former NY Jets WR Al Toon was forced to retire early in 1992 after suffering several severe concussions.
The Jets have not yet announced who will take Chrebet's roster sopt.
