LB Cowart is Jets latest casualty

The Jets announced today that the latest member of their walking wounded club is LB Sam Cowart. Cowart is battling a thigh injury and will not play against the Steelers. The Jets announced today that the latest member of their walking wounded club is LB Sam Cowart. Cowart is battling a thigh injury and will not play against the Steelers.

“He (Cowart) has an injured thigh and it's not getting any better.” Said Coach Herman Edwards at his daily press conference today. “At this point, rather than prolong it and say he's questionable to probable, just, he's out. So he's not going to play.”

Backup LB Jason Glenn will get the start in Cowart’s absence.

WR Jonathan Carter’s MRI on his injured knee did not reveal any damage that will require surgery. Carter was placed in injured reserve on Tuesday.

Despite the Jets signing two WR’s yesterday, neither of them will return kicks this week. Instead, RB LaMont Jordan will be the go-to guy in that department. Jordan, who has been recovering from an injured left hand is also expected to get more work on offense as well. WR Kevin Lockett, who the Jets signed after WR Wayne Chrebet was put on IR a few weeks ago will be active this week and according to the Coach, should see some action.

T Kareem McKenzie is also on the injury list with a sprained ankle. He is though listed as probable and should be ready to go by Sunday.

With all the talk recently about the possibility of moving DE John Abraham to LB next season, the Coach refused to bite when asked about it.

“At this point there's going to be a lot of speculation on a lot of things.” Said Edwards. “I just think that we are going to do whatever is best for the football player and the football team, and I think at this point, to sit here and say what we are going to do is a moot point, you know, more important than focusing on Pittsburgh.”

Jets GM Terry Bradway admitted on his weekly radio show Monday that the Abraham switch to LB is something that will be discussed and considered during the off-season.
