In a game that featured extreme weather ranging from driving rain to blizzards, Martin carried the ball 30 times for 174 yards and had 228 total all-purpose yards. Also, in the process, CuMart collected his ninth consecutive 1000 yard season and passed former Jet John Riggins on the all-time NFL rushing list.

The only scoring in this game came from Jets kicker Doug Brien who booted two FG’s from 28 and 41 yards. The rest of the job was done by the Jets defense which had three defensive stands in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Jets defense held Steelers RB Jerome Bettis to only 68 yards on 16 carries. Standouts on defense were LB Jason Glenn, making his first start for an injured Sam Cowart and CB Ray Mickens who seemed to be all over the field.

The last time the Jets (6-8) hosted a football game played in a snowstorm was in December of 1982 at Shea Stadium against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Jets beat the Bucs in a blizzard 32-17 and have not played a snow game since until today. The last time the Jets beat Pittsburgh was in October of 1988 while Joe Walton was Coach. The Jets are now 2-14 lifetime against the Steelers.

The Jets, who were officially eliminated from playoff contention with Denver’s win today will now try to play spoiler to the division winner New England Patriots who are fighting for playoff home field advantage. The game is the Jets’ last home game and will take place next Saturday night as a national ESPN game.
