The Jets announced they have waived running back/kick returner Michael Bates from the injured reserve list.
Bates, a 5-10, 215-pound running back/kick returner is an 11th year player out of the University of Arizona. He signed with the Jets as a free agent on September 10, 2003 and averaged 27.1 yards on 22 kickoff returns and also recorded six tackles on special teams in eight games played. Bates suffered a hand injury in the week nine game against the Giants and was placed on injured reserve on November 11.
Joe Namath, who has been all over the media the past few days for his antics with ESPN’s Suzy Kolber during the Jets/Pats game last Saturday, has reportedly apologized to Kolber for his inappropriate remarks.
While being interviewed by Kolber just prior to the halftime ceremonies that named the Jets All-Time Four Decade Team, it seemed that the Hall of Famer had been partaking in a little too much holiday cheer. Namath’s speech was slurred and twice he told Kolber that he wanted to kiss her. Kolber acknowleged yesterday that she had been called by Namath and that he apologized for the incident. Kolber gladly accepted his apology.
The only player on the Jets injury report this week is G Dave Szott. Szott strained his knee against the Pats and is listed as questionable for Sunday. Although MRI results are not yet known, we hear that Szott will likely not play. Look for Jonathan Goodwin and Brandon Moore to get some work in Szott’s absence. At 36, there is the possibility that the 14 year Vet may contemplate retirement if his injury is severe.
