Cottrell, along with Defensive Backs coach Bill Bradley, Defensive Line Coach Rubin Carter and Defensive Assistant David Merritt were told of their release today and the firings were announced to the media on a Herm Edwards conference call. Linbebacker Coach Bob Sutton was not officially fired but will stay on only if the new hired Defensive Coordiantor wants him.
Media speculation has Bucs defensive line Coach Rod Marinelli as the Jets' top choice to replace Cottrell. Jets Coach Herman Edwards and Marinelli were collegues in Tampa under Coach Tony Dungy. Recently fired Cardinals Coach Dave McGinnis has also been mentioned as a candidate.
