Jets Insider.com has learned that Jets WR Coach Mike Canales has left the team to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Arizona. Jets Insider.com has learned that Jets WR Coach Mike Canales has left the team to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Arizona.

The announcement was made today by new Arizona coach Mike Stoops. Canales 43, was in charge of the Jets WRs for one season after he replaced the departed Mose Rison last winter. Prior to being hired by the Jets, Canales served as Quarterbacks coach for North Carolina State.

Canales was instrumental in the emergence of Jets WR Santana Moss this past season who finished the year with 74 catches for 1104 yards and 10 TDs. All career highs.

Still no word on who will head the Jets defense next season. The Jets interviewed Gunther Cunningham but there has been no word yet if a contract was offered. If the Jets want Cunningham they would be wise to sign him up quickly because the former Chiefs Head Coach has suddenly become a hot commodity.

Besides Gang Green, the Falcons and his former employer the Chiefs have gotten permission from the Titans to interview him. Reports say that new Atlanta coach Jim Mora Jr. wants Cunningham badly.

Stay tuned.
