Jets Insider.com has learned that the Chicago Bears have hired Ron Rivera as their defensive coordinator. With Rivera gone, all signs point to the Jets hiring Ravensí Secondary Coach Donnie Henderson to run the defense.

Rivera had interviewed with the Jets earlier this week and there have been reports that he was offered the job. However, Rivera instead chose to go where he played for most of his career with newly hired Head Coach Lovie Smith. Rivera was a linebacker for the Bears for nine years (1984-1992) and was part of Chicagoís Superbowl team of 1985.

Now that Rivera is no longer available the Jets will likely hire Henderson who interviewed for the job a few weeks ago. The wild card here is that the team reportedly wants to speak to Patriots Secondary Coach Eric Mangini. However, the team cannot speak to Mangini until after the Superbowl. Also, even if they wait, itís not guaranteed that the Pats will grant permission for an interview. Based on the history between the two teams, Bob Kraft granting permission is far from a lock. Itís also speculated that Mangini will be offered the Pats Defensive Coordinator job if current DC Romeo Crennel is hired by Oakland.

Stay tuned.
