After an exhaustive search that has taken almost a month, the Jets will announce they have hired Ravensí Secondary Coach Donnie Henderson as their next Defensive Coordinator.

A conference call to announce the hiring will be held at 1PM today. Henderson, 46, who has never been a coordinator at the professional level, joins the Jets after a 4 year stint with Baltimore and nearly 20 years of College and NFL coaching experience. He replaces Ted Cottrell who was fired after the Jets final game last month.

Henderson has a big challenge ahead of him as he takes over a Jets defense that ranked 21st in the league overall and 28th against the run. He will also be coaching a unit that will likely be have much different personnel with as many as defensive six starters from 2003 not returning.

The Jets will have to now search for a new Secondary Coach. There had been speculation that former Jets player and Giantsí Defensive Coordinator Johnny Lynn would join the Jets staff as secondary coach but it looks like instead Lynn will take Hendersonís former job in Baltimore. Earlier this month the team replaced fired Defensive Line Coach Rubin Carter, with Denny Marcin who was previously with the Giants. Despite a horrible year for Jets linebackers, LB Coach Bob Sutton was retained.
