The Jets continued to retool their defensive coaching staff by hiring former NFL Europe and Rutgers head coach Doug Graber as their new defensive backs coach.

Graber joins the Jets following three years as the Head Coach of the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe. He led the Galaxy to a 35-16 World Bowl victory over the Rhein Fire in June of 2003. Graber also served as the Head Coach of Rutgers University from 1990 to 1995.

The Detroit, Michigan native made two stops in the NFL first as the defensive backs coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 1983 to 1986 and then as the defensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1987 to 1989. In 1988, the Bucs allowed the lowest yards per carry (3.2) in the NFL and the second least yards (1,551) gained on the ground. Graber also served on the collegiate level with Montana State University, the University of Wisconsin, Ball State University, Eastern Michigan University, and Michigan Technological University.

Graber replaces Bill Bradley who was fired with defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell, defensive line Coach Rubin Carter and defensive assistant David Merritt after the Jets' final game in December.

"Doug Graber is a welcome addition to our staff and we are excited to have someone that has the coaching experience that he has join our coaching staff," said Coach Edwards. "Doug is an excellent communicator and teacher and we are happy that he has elected to join our staff."
