Jets sponsor Lupus walk

The New York Jets will co-sponsor the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) Walk with Us to Cure Lupus event on Saturday May 15, at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Jets' General Manager Terry Bradway's wife, Kathy Bradway, and Head Coach Herman Edwards' wife, Lia Edwards, are serving as the honorary co-chairs of the worthwhile cause. The 5K (3.1 miles) walk begins at 10:00 a.m. and will be held rain or shine. New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson, General Manager Terry Bradway and Head Coach Herman Edwards will lead the fundraising and awareness walk.

Players from the New York Jets and hundreds of Long Island residents will gather Saturday, May 15 at Eisenhower Park, for the inaugural Walk with Us to Cure Lupus 5K (3.1-miles) Walkathon to benefit the Alliance For Lupus Research. One hundred percent of proceeds from the walkathon, which is expected to raise $200,000, will be used to fund medical research to prevent, treat and eventually cure lupus, a potentially fatal autoimmune disease that strikes predominantly young women.

The 2004 Long Island Walk with Us to Cure Lupus Walkathon is sponsored by area families, organizations and companies, including the Jets; North Fork Bank; Estee Lauder Companies; and Hofstra University

A 501 (c)(3) organization, the Alliance For Lupus Research is chaired by Robert Wood Johnson IV, of the Johnson & Johnson healthcare family and owner of the NFL's New York Jets. Since its inception in 1999, ALR has committed more than $26 million to lupus research, and has made remarkable gains toward unlocking the mysteries of this disease. ALR directs one hundred percent of funds raised to peer-reviewed research and scientific programs. It received the highest rating (four stars) from Charity Navigator, an independent resource that evaluates the effectiveness and financial health of more than 2,300 charities.
