The NY Jets have am 1PM press conference scheduled to announced they have signed their top draft choice LB Jonathan Vilma of the University of Miami. The team also announced the signing of seventh round pick RB Derrick Ward. The terms of both contracts have not been disclosed but our sources tell us that Vilma's deal is for five years in the $10-11MM range.

Vilma was the 12th pick in this years NFL college draft and is expected by many within the organization to make an immediate impact on the Jets defense. Ward, from Ottawa College in Kansas was drafted with one of four seventh round picks the Jets had this year. The 5-11/233 Lb. RB is an intriguing player that will get a lot of looks this season especially with the uncertain long term status of LaMont Jordan. With players reporting for training camp on Thursday, the Jets have signed six of their ten draft picks.

The signed players include fifth-round pick S Erik Coleman (Washington State), seventh round picks LB Darrell McClover (Miami), DE Trevor Johnson (Nebraska) and SS Rashad Washington (Kansas State). The four players still unsigned are third round CB Derrick Strait (Oklahoma), fourth-rounders WR Jerricho Cotchery (N.C. State) and T Adrian Jones (Kansas) and sixth-round T Marko Cavka (Sacramento State).

The Jets expect all remaining unsigned draft choices to be inked by Thursday. Jets GM Terry Bradway has never had a holdout in the four years he has been with the team.
