Jets GM Terry Bradway has never had a rookie holdout in his previous three years with the team and 2004 will be no different. Bradway locked up the remaining four unsigned draft choices today and all players reported for the start of training camp tomorrow.

The streak was in jeopardy though when third round pick Oklahoma CB Derrick Straight was still unsigned late this afternoon however, Jets Insider.com has learned that Strait agreed in principle to a deal early this evening and will be suited up for practice tomorrow.

Earlier in the day the team inked the other three unsigned rookies; Fourth-rounders WR Jerricho Cotchery (N.C. State) and T Adrian Jones (Kansas) and sixth-round T Marko Cavka (Sacramento State). Details of all deals were not revealed.

The players arrived today with high energy and unbridled optimism. Jets C Kevin Mawae spoke of a different vibe on the team. “It’s a different attitude in the locker room; there is a different energy in there” said Mawae. “I think that we have guys who are excited and who want to be around and make the big plays.”

Chad Pennington who has never started an opening game for the Jets can’t wait for game one against the Bengals. “I’ve never been able to start opening day for the Jets.” Said Pennington. “To me that’s exciting. I think every professional football player enjoys opening day; there’s a certain adrenaline rush that comes on that game day. There is something that is a little different, and I’m looking forward to that.” When asked if he brought any necessities to make it through camp, the Tennessee native mentioned his new Dukes of Hazzard DVD. “I’m bringing the Dukes of Hazzard with me to camp.” Said Pennington. “There are 13 episodes. I’ve already seen all of them but I’m going to watch them again. You can make fun of me, but that’s my show. It’s the South’s version of Starsky and Hutch I guess.”

Pennington was asked several questions about his contract negotiations and he is very optimistic that a deal will be done before September 1st. “I would say percentage-wise that I feel about 75% sure that something will get done.” Said Pennington. I always leave that 25% open there because you never know what’s going to happen.

The Jets first practice tomorrow starts at 8:45 AM and Jets Insider.com will be there and at every other practice during camp. Be sure to check back several times a day for updated camp reports and photos.
