The Jets went through a light practice Thurdsay and the team will now get some well deserved rest as they have off until Monday.

Jets Head Coach Herman Edwards feels the team needs the bye. “I think emotionally these guys have been really worn,” the Coach said. “Coaches have been coaching them hard. We've been asking them to do things that characteristically might not happen two years ago because we were a little bit of a veteran football team. We're younger now. There's been a lot of time pressed on them.”

QB Chad Pennington has been solid through the first two games and likes having the bye this early in the season. “It breaks up the monotony of training camp running into the season and it gives your teammates a chance to rest from training camp, especially your receivers and the perimeter guys because they have been on their feet for so long,” Pennington said. “And then it allows you to focus in on the rest of the season. When the bye week comes later on in the season, it can almost break the momentum you have or the run you are trying to put together for the playoffs.”

Pennington talked about his plans for the bye weekend. “I plan to enjoy my wife and my son,” the QB said. “It is kind of hard to do that during the season so when you get a chance to do that, you have to take full advantage of it.”

The offense has put up 65 points combined in the first two games and players have been quick to give offensive coordinator Paul Hackett credit. Hackett feels the offensive line has played very well. “Just watching the Miami game of a year ago, Brent Smith is playing at right guard and Brandon Moore is playing left guard,” the OC said. “I think changing the chemistry inside – Brandon to right and Pete Kendall to left guard and (Kevin) Mawae and the maturity of Kareem McKenzie. I think there is a process there in the offensive line that is taking some shape with the addition of Pete Kendall. I think probably those two things are the strongest reasons we’ve been able to have some consistency in the running game.”

MISCELLANEOUS TIDBITS:

The Jets released DT Daleroy Stewart who was acquired last week after being released by Dallas. They have not yet announced who will take the roster spot blue we hear they may bring up DT Alan Harper from the practice squad. RB Jonathan Reese, who the team cut to sign Stewart is also a possibility. The team also released G Jason Nerys from the practice squad.
