This past spring, Jets Head Coach Herman Edwards told his players that one of the goals for this season would be to start 5-0. He said he picked that number since it was something that had never been done in team history before.

This past spring, Jets Head Coach Herman Edwards told his players that one of the goals for this season would be to start 5-0. He said he picked that number since it was something that had never been done in team history before.

Now the Jets are 5-0 after yesterday’s 22-14 win over San Francisco and will have their toughest game of the season when they travel to Foxboro, Massachusetts on Sunday to face the 5-0 New England Patriots.

There will certainly be plenty of hype leading up to Sunday. Today, Edwards put the game in perspective.

“What’s great about it is we have 11 games left.” Edwards said. “This is just our sixth game. We’re undefeated. New England’s undefeated. They are the best team in football. We have to make sure we go in there and beat them.”

The Jets will have to come out with energy from the start if they want to have a chance at handing the Patriots their first loss of the year and snapping the Patriots 20 game winning streak. Edwards talked about the Patriots 20 game win streak.

“It’s unbelievable,” the HC said. “It’s a tribute to their coaches, players, staff.”

Edwards knows the Patriots will probably be the toughest opponent for the Jets.

“It’s a test we haven’t faced this season,” Edwards said. “We know we are facing the best team in football. They’ve won two Super Bowls out of the last three. They know how to win tight games. There players always in position to make plays. That’s what makes them good. They are very well coached. They’ve played in all type of games and know how to find ways to win. They play as a football team.”

The Jets are tied with Pittsburgh for the lead in the AFC with 13 takeaways. The team has also effectively run the ball behind RB Curtis Martin, who has 613 yards and six touchdowns. Edwards feels those are the keys for the Jets on Sunday.

“If we can continue to take the ball away and run the ball offensively, you have a chance,” Edwards said. “We’ve been able to do that for five weeks.”

INJURY REPORT: FB B.J. Askew was the only new player added to the injury list after hurting his shoulder in yesterday’s win. He is listed as questionable. The Jets got some good news as LB Sam Cowart is listed as questionable after missing the last three weeks with an injured knee. G Pete Kendall, G Brandon Moore, and WR Santana Moss all are probable after missing yesterday’s game with injuries.

-CB Derrick Strait (foot): Out
-S Rashad Washington (foot): Out
-LB Sam Cowart (knee): Questionable
-FB B.J. Askew (shoulder): Questionable
-G Pete Kendall (foot): Probable
-G Brandon Moore (hamstring): Probable
