Staying grounded

Despite being undefeated with over a third of the season past us, the Jets have for the most part remained under the radar. Head Coach Herman Edwards and his Jets are fine with the attention going to the other two undefeated teams-the Patriots and the Eagles.

Edwards knows that if the Jets beat the Patriots on Sunday and end the Patriots 20-game winning streak, it will be hard to remain unnoticed.

“When you win, the pressure becomes bigger,” Edwards said.

The Jets top two receivers are RB Curtis Martin and FB Jerald Sowell. WR Justin McCareins was expected to have a big year but so far only has 13 catches for 177 yards. QB Chad Pennington said before the season that it would take time for him to get his timing down with McCareins and that certainly seems the case. Asked today if he is frustrated by his lack of catches, McCareins said he is a team player.

“All I can do is what I’m supposed to do,” McCareins said. “That’s try to help win games.”

WR Santana Moss is expected to be back in the starting lineup after missing last week’s game with a hamstring injury. Moss practiced today and remains probable. Moss knows that playing at Gillette Stadium will not be easy.

“It’s a tough environment,” Moss said. “They have great fans and a great team.”

Moss added that staying calm will be key.

“Composure means a lot when you’re playing away,” Moss said.

It seems every time RB Curtis Martin touches the ball, he breaks record. Martin can continue his climb up the NFL All-Time Rushing List this week, as he is 31 yards away from passing Jim Brown for seventh. Martin talked about what a win over the Patriots would mean to the Jets.

“It would give us more confidence,” Martin said. “When you win games like that, it brings teams together. That’s what big games do.”

MISCELLANEOUS TIDBITS: The NFL is showing where their loyalty is regarding the Jets bid to build a West Side Stadium by pulling the annual NFL Draft out of Madison Square Garden. As most fans familiar with the situation know, the Garden is owned by Cablevision Magnates Charles and James Dolan who have been heavily lobbying the local airwaves to block the project.

In retaliation for the Dolan’s tactics which try to disguise Cablevision’s corporate greed with actual concern for the city, the NFL will end it’s decade long association with The Garden and move to an alternate NYC location. Although the move has not been officially announced, CBS Sportsline is reporting that a decision has already been made. They also report that the NFL is considering the Jacob Javits Convention Center down the block from MSG as the most likely place the draft would move to.

INJURY REPORT: Except for S Rashad Washington and CB Derrick Strait, all the Jets listed on the injury report practiced today. LB Sam Cowart is the Jet who has missed the most time, injuring his knee in week two against San Diego. Edwards today said Cowart is getting close and he will decide if Cowart goes back into his starting spot at MLB or if rookie Jonathan Vilma remains there.

-LB Sam Cowart (knee): Questionable
-FB B.J. Askew (shoulder): Questionable
-OG Brandon Moore (hamstring): Probable
-WR Santana Moss (hamstring): Probable
-OG Pete Kendall (foot): Probable

The Jets practice tomorrow before leaving for New England. Check back often to Jets Insider.com for all the latest team news and reports.
