The Jets made some brief reflections Monday on their loss to the Patriots then quickly shifted focus to their upcoming prime time Monday night divisional matchup against the improving Dolphins.

The Jets played competitively throughout yesterday’s 13-7 loss to the Patriots. Although the Jets are now 5-1, Head Coach Herman Edwards says there is no need to panic.

“We don’t want to get into a spiral,” Edwards said. “We’re 5-1. It’s pretty good. We have to build off what we have done.”

Despite being disappointed with yesterday’s outcome, there’s still 10 games left in the regular season.

“You got to take something positive out of this,” Edwards said. “We have to look at the season now. What we have to do achieve one of our goals. If we achieve that goal, we get to go try to achieve another one.”

There were many questionable decisions by the coaches yesterday including the Jets going for it on 4th and inches with about seven minutes left in the game. Edwards talked about his decision.

“It was more of a statement I was going to make to the football team,” Edwards said. “Only way you beat a team like this is to take a chance. When I call something like this, I’m counting on them.”

QB Chad Pennington did not have one of his best performances against the Patriots. Edwards has been impressed by Pennington this season.

“I think he’ll evaluate himself,” the HC said. “ He’s probably his hardest critic. This is the first year he ever started as a QB and he went 5-0 before he got a loss. He’s the first QB in franchise history to ever do that. He doesn’t get enough credit.”

One positive to come out of yesterday’s game is WR Justin McCareins finally having a breakout game. McCareins caught six passes for 83 yards.

“He had a great day,” the HC said. “His physical presence of being a big, strong tough guy. He made some great catches and hopefully that propels him to that level.”

The team now shifts focus on the Miami Dolphins, who will visit the Jets on Monday Night Football this week. The ‘Fins, who are coming off their first win of the season, an upset against the Rams, will be looking to get revenge for the Jets 17-9 victory in Miami earlier this month. Despite Miami’s 1-6 record, Edwards knows every Jets/Dolphins game is a battle.

”Our players respect Miami”, said Edwards. “The only time I can ever recall blowing them out our first year and I think we ran two interceptions back for touchdowns. The games have always been tight.”

INJURY REPORT: The team got some bad news on Sunday when they found out that versatile LB Jason Glenn, had fractured his arm and will be lost for a minimum of 4-6 weeks. Glenn is a staple and leader on special teams. The loss also hurts the Jets depth at LB. Both CB Derek Strait and S Rashad Washington were upgraded to questionable for this week. LB Sam Cowart is also questionable but will practice and should be upgraded by week’s end.

-LB Jason Glenn (arm): Out
-LB Sam Cowart (knee): Questionable
-G Brandon Moore (hamstring): Questionable
-CB Derrick Strait (foot): Questionable
-S Rashad Washington (foot): Questionable

The players have Tuesday off before returning on Wednesday to start preparing for Miami. Check back to Jets Insider.com throughout the week for the latest updates as the Jets get ready for the Dolphins next Monday night.
