Getting back on track

As the Jets prepare for their upcoming Monday Night matchup against Miami, their goal is to regain the momentum they had prior to their loss to New England last Sunday.

“When you win, you keep gaining confidence,” Head Coach Herman Edwards said. “You got to get that going again.”

QB Chad Pennington talked about the team mindset after last week’s game.

“I just think what people have to understand is that our goal is not just to beat the Patriots,” Pennington said. “That is not the end goal. Our team understands the bigger picture of winning the world championship. Sometimes when you lose, when you know you can change some things to win and you can control those things, it is easier to take. When you can’t control those things, when you just flat out and get beat because they are better than you, then that is harder to take”

Edwards was pleased with today’s practice.

“For the most part, the players did a nice job,” Edwards said. “They were very focused.”

One of the keys to the Jets beating the Dolphins on Monday will be the play of the secondary. Today, S Jon McGraw, who will be regularly rotated into the defensive backfield again, talked about what the secondary needs to improve on.

“I think for the most part, it has been just communication on the back end,” McGraw said. “The biggest problem has been giving up the big plays. That is our focus-to eliminate the big gains with a run or pass. But I think you can attribute the mishaps to communication on the back end.”

MISCELLANEOUS TIDBITS: Coach Edwards’ tirade against the local media yesterday was the talk of every sportscast last night. A day later, Edwards told the press he’s not angry at them.

“I know they have an obligation like I do,” the HC said. “It’s not up to the media because you walk into the locker room to judge how they feel. I was not trying to send a message to the team. It was not a ploy to get them fired up. I was defending my players and that’s my job.”

Following up on yesterday’s rumor reported on Jets that the team was in the process of signing Australian Football star Ben Graham to take over punting duties for the erratic Toby Gowin, it looks like Gowin can sleep a little easier tonight. Reports have surfaced today that Graham did have a tryout with the Jets a few weeks ago but the team decided against signing him. Apparently Graham has a great leg but is very raw and erratic. There was some indication that the team may interested in bringing him back and working on him during the off-season.

INJURY REPORT: No changes from yesterday.
