One day after sitting out practice due to a stomach virus, Jets QB Chad Pennington returned to the practice field at Weeb Ewbank Hall today.

“It was just a 24-hour virus and I feel fine now,” Pennington said following Thursday’s workout session. “I went through the whole practice. Everything is fine. It was just a normal sickness. It wasn’t anything that wasn’t routine or out of the ordinary.”

That is good news for a club that will need all its leaders on the field as they are set to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are the No. 1 seed in the AFC, in a divisional playoff game this Saturday in Pittsburgh.

“He’s not 100 percent, but he’s well enough to move around,” Coach Herm Edwards said. “I think he feels a lot better than he did yesterday. He had a good practice today, threw the ball well and that’s a good sign.”

The news was not so fortunate for the team’s backup QB Quincy Carter, who is expected to miss Saturday’s game as he continues to deal with his ailing mother.

“I don’t expect him at the game,” Edwards noted.

Instead, seldom-used QB Ricky Ray will elevate to the third-string position, with QB Brooks Bollinger serving as Pennington’s backup this weekend.

MISCELLANEOUS TIDBITS: The team announced they have signed WR Brock Ralph to a future contract. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Ralph, a product from the University of Wyoming, has spent the past three seasons in the Canadian Football League.

-Jets LB Eric Barton was fined $7500.00 by the NFL for his head blow on Chargers QB Drew Brees last Saturday that nearly cost the Jets the ballgame. Based on the outcome of the game, it's safe to say that it will be an easy check for the veteran LB to write out.

-According to the Jets, NY Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy today placed a friendly wager on the outcome of Sunday’s AFC Divisional playoff game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets.

If the Jets win, Mayor Murphy will send a care package of Pittsburgh products to Mayor Bloomberg in New York, including a case of Pittsburgh brewed Iron City beer, “A Basket of Pittsburgh” full of all things Pittsburgh and an assortment of Pittsburgh sports memorabilia. If the Steelers win Mayor Bloomberg will send some of New York’s tastiest food stuffs including a case of Brooklyn Lager, two dozen Nathan’s Hot Dogs with all the trimmings, and a tray of World Famous Veniero’s Italian Cookies.

“Gang Green has had a great season and we look forward to another upset victory this Sunday in Pittsburgh,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “We are putting up some of New York’s finest food and while I doubt we will lose at least Mayor Murphy can dream about our beer, hot dogs and cookies.”

“The Steelers have had an incredible regular season and I’m confident that Big Ben, Jerome, James Farrior, Coach Cower and the entire organization are going to continue that success into the playoffs,” said Mayor Murphy. “Our entire city is excited about this game and looking forward to a black and gold victory!”

INJURY REPORT: According to a report by The Star Ledger, DE John Abraham (knee) has reportedly been declared out for Saturday’s game due to his sprained right knee. Abraham did participate in practice today, but the team has yet to make an official announcement regarding Abraham’s status. Abraham is still officially listed as questionable. The aforementioned Carter (personal) has been declared out for the Steelers game. Carter did not practice today. Backup LB Kenyatta Wright (foot) also missed practice today, but remains probable due to a foot injury. Both QB Chad Pennington and DT Dewayne Robertson (knee) have been removed from the team’s injury report and will play Saturday.

-QB Quincy Carter (personal): Out
-DE John Abraham (knee): Questionable
-LB Kenyatta Wright (foot): Probable
