Various sources are confirming that a season ending exam on Jets QB Chad Pennington’s shoulder conducted last week, revealed an injury worse than a strain. Apparently Pennington’s rotator cuff is torn and will require major surgery to repair the damage.

The surgery will take place within the next few weeks and although the recovery time is not yet known, there is a possibility based on the severity of the tear that the QB will not be back in action until training camp in August.

Pennington originally injured his shoulder on November 7th against Buffalo and after resting for three weeks came back to finish the season where the team finished 2-3 and squeaked into the playoffs. After a win in the Wild Card round of the playoffs against San Diego, the Jets were eliminated in the Divisional round by the Steelers on January 15. During that time, Pennington acknowledged that his shoulder was not at full strength and he visibly struggled at times especailly on deep throws.

Niether Jets Head Coach Herm Edwards or Pennington, who is reportedly on vacation this week, have publicly commented on this developing story.

MISCELLANEOUS TIDBITS The Jets annouced they have signed WR Terrence Stubbs, CB Andrew Davison and RB Little John Flowers to future contracts. Stubbs and Davison spent time on the Jets practice squad this season and Flowers was on the practice squad in 2002 and 2003. All three players were in Jets training camp last summer.
