In what may be the biggest coaching loss of this off-season, strength and conditioning coach John Lott has left the Jets to join the Cleveland Browns’ staff.

In what may be the biggest coaching loss of this off-season, strength and conditioning coach John Lott has left the Jets to join the Cleveland Browns’ staff.

Although the news has not been officially confirmed by the Jets, the Browns’ official website announced the hiring on Sunday. Lott joins new Cleveland Head Coach Romeo Crennel who he worked with while Crennel was with the Jets on Bill Parcells’ staff.

The loss of Lott could be significant since he is known in NFL circles as being one of the top conditioning coaches in the league. His reputation was backed up by the Jets consistently having one of the lowest injury rates in the NFL while he was here. Originally hired in 1997 by Parcells, Lott had the longest tenure on the Jets coaching staff.

The likely successor to Lott is current assistant strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi. The 24 year old Alosi has been on the Jets’ staff working under Lott for three seasons. Alosi is a local product from Massapequa who played football and graduated from Hofstra in 2000.
