Jets swap top pick for Raiders TE.

April 20th, 2005
ESPN is reporting that the Jets have exchanged their first round draft choice (26th overall) for Oakland three year veteran TE Doug Jolley. ESPN is reporting that the Jets have exchanged their first round draft choice (26th overall) for Oakland three year veteran TE Doug Jolley.

The 26 year old Jolley, formerly of BYU, was Oakland’s second-round pick in 2002. During his three years with the Raiders he compiled 90 receptions for 972 yards and five touchdowns. Neither the Jets or Raiders have confirmed the trade as of press time.

The report also states that in addition to Jolley, the Jets will also get one of the Raiders’ two second-round choices. Oakland has two 2nd round picks (38th overall), and another one (No. 47) acquired from Houston on Tuesday night in a deal that sent former first-round cornerback Phillip Buchanon to the Texans.

The trade fills a big void for the Jets who previously had only three year veteran Chris Baker and long snapper/TE James Dearth on the roster with experience. Former starter Anthony Becht was lost to free agency to the Bucs last month. The Jets had tried to sign Broncos RFA Jeb Putzier to an offer sheet last month, but Denver matched the five-year deal.
