With camp starting in two weeks, the loss leaves a big hole in the Jets’ secondary. The Jets hope to provide a partial patch by acquiring 25 year old CB Pete Hunter from the Cowboys for a conditional draft pick in 2006. Hunter, a three year veteran, who missed 13 games last season with an injured knee, had been mentioned in several trade rumors this winter for Ray Mickens who for now, steps in as the starter for Abraham.
There are still many rumblings around the league that the Jets are the frontrunners to sign free agent Pro Bowl CB Ty Law. Although the fit seems perfect, it will only happen if Law significantly lowers his expectations of a hefty deal. It’s obvious that no team has the type of money at this point in the off-season that Law is looking for. Law is recovering from off-season foot surgery.
