For those Brooks Bollinger fans who were hoping to see their man get a second shot as the Jets’ starter be prepared for a long wait.
“It’s over. It’s done,” said Coach Herman Edwards today when asked about a quarterback controversy between QB’s Vinny Testaverde and Bollinger. “It’s Vinny. Vinny’s going to go against San Diego.”
Testaverde had an MRI on his strained Achilles’ tendon yesterday and it came back negative. He’s been resting it the past few days and will test it before the end of the week.
“Hopefully I will be back on the field in a couple of days,” said Testaverde today. “Obviously we have the bye week, so I’ll be ready to go against San Diego.”
Testaverde had a rough game against Atlanta with three fumbles and an interception before leaving the game in the second half due to his injury. However, in his defense, the Jets’ makeshift offensive line played horribly. Testaverde was running for his life most of his time on the field.
The Coach reported that both LB Eric Barton and C Kevin Mawae are getting second opinions on their torn muscles. Barton’s injury was originally reported as a torn triceps but it’s actually his bicep that was torn. Both will likely have surgery within the next week or so.
Due to the recent injury rash the team will bring in a few players in for tryouts this weekend. They are right now very thin at LB and on the offensive line and will likely add a player or two by next week.
With the bye this Sunday, Edwards is giving his battered and bruised team the rest of the week off. They return back to practice to begin preparing for the Chargers on Monday. Be sure to check back to Jets Insider.com for all the latest Jets news.
