The announced today the signing of free agent defensive end Dave Ball.
Ball, 6-5, 277 pounds, is in his second NFL season following his selection in the fifth round of the 2004 NFL Draft (#133 overall) by the San Diego Chargers. The UCLA graduate played in six games as a rookie with the Chargers last season before breaking a bone in his foot in game six against the Atlanta Falcons and ending up on the injured reserve list for the remainder of the season. In 2005, Ball played in two contests for the Chargers before being waived on November 5 and signing to the Chargersí practice squad. He has totaled four tackles and two passes defensed in the eight career games he has appeared in.
The native of Dixon, California completed his career as the schoolís all-time leading sack leader with 30.5 sacks and ranks second in Bruins history with 43.5 tackles for losses. Ball was a 2003 first-team All-America selection by Football Writers Association, American Football Coaches Association, The Walter Camp Football Foundation and The Sporting News. And was also the 2003 ABC-Chevrolet National Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to being a first-team All-Pac 10 honoree and the recipient of the Morris Trophy as the Pac-10ís top lineman after he set school and conference records with 16.5 sacks as a senior.
