ESPN is confirming that the Jets have hired San Diego Chargers QB's Coach Brian Schottenheimer as the team's offensive coordinator, replacing the departed Mike Heimerdinger.
Schottenheimer, 32, son of Chargers Head Coach Marty, brings seven years of NFL experience. Some believed that new Jets coach Eric Mangini is 35 himself, would choose a more experienced coordinator to run the offense but according to ESPN, Schottenheimer was extremely impressive in his Jets interview.
Schottenheimer beat out Eagles' QB's Coach Pat Shurmur and former Texans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer who was hired by Dallas today.
An official announcement by the team is expected soon.
