QB Jon Kitna chooses silver and blue over green by signing with the Lions today.
Various sources are confirming that free agent QB Jon Kitna has signed with the Detroit Lions.
Kitna, 33, who had spent the last five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, met with the Jets yesterday and was reportedly offered a contract. After mulling his options, he chose Detroit where he will compete with former first round pick Joey Harrington for the starting job under new Lions coach Rod Marinelli. Sources say that Kitna was the Jets' first choice to compete with QB Chad Pennington who is recovering from his second shoulder surgery in as many seasons.
With Kitna off the market, the Jets will now likely focus on trading for Redskins QB Patrick Ramsey who met with the team last week. Sources say the Redskins are looking for a 4th or 5th round pick as compensation for the former first round four year veteran. The Jets have reportedly offered a 7th rounder in this year’s draft. With Kitna gone, Washington’s leverage has certainly gotten stronger.
