35 year old DE Kimo von Oelhoffen was signed today to bolster the Jets' new defensive scheme.
After losing QB Jon Kitna earlier today to the Lions, the Jets were able to add one player they coveted by signing former Steelers DE Kimo Von Oelhoffen according to various sources.
The signing was not officially announced by the Jets at press time but sources say that deal is for three years in the $9-10 MM dollar range.
The 35 year old 6’4” 300 LB von Oelhoffen is a 12 year veteran who has split his career between the Bengals and Steelers with the last 6 seasons in Pittsburgh. The versatile lineman is a prototypical 3-4 end and will step right in to the Jets new defensive scheme. The move virtually assures that franchise player DE John Abraham’s time with the Jets is over.
INSIDER TIDBITS: Jets Insider.com has learned that the contract that C Kevin Mawae signed with the Titans earlier today was $13MM over four years. Mawae was due to make $2.8MM this season with the Jets.
-Besides inking Kitna, the Lions today also signed former Cowboys TE Dan Campbell to a five year contract. Along with Kitna, Campbell vistied with the Jets yesterday. Looks like the team needs some polish on their sales pitch.
