Big Jon Runyan will remain an Eagle for the foreseeable future.
The Jets quest to land premier tackle Jon Runyan ended today as he chose to re-sign with the Eagles.

Several sources are confirming the news as Runyan returns to the team that he’s played for the last six seasons. Terms of his new deal with Philly were not available, but it’s reportedly a multi-year deal.

Many were surprised when the Eagles decided not to put the franchise tag on the talented 6’7” 330 LB specimen tackle but Runyan openly voiced that his first choice was to return to the Eagles. The Jets, looking to replace the departed Jason Fabini, thought they had a chance to steal Runyan. He visited the team this week and was reportedly made an offer yesterday. In the end, sources say it was close, but the Jets' offer was obviously not enough to pry him from Philadelphia.

With Runyan now off the market, the Jets could focus on massive Virginia Tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson with the number four selection in this year's draft but some are speculating that they may package that pick with the 29th selection from the John Abraham trade to move up.

Runyan is the third free agent spurn the Jets this off-season. Offers were made to QB Jon Kitna who chose Detroit and TE Jeb Putzier who signed with Houston.

Putzier choosing Houston led to the Jets today to re-sign TE Chris Baker. The move was announced late this afternoon. Baker, who became an unrestricted free agent earlier this month visited several teams but it's unclear if any significant offers were made to him. The four year veteran, who was originally a third round pick by NY out of Michigan State in 2002, has shown flashes of talent during his time with the Jets but for the most part has been inconsistent.

With Anthony Becht leaving the team last season as a free agent, Baker became the starter before breaking his left fibula against the Chargers and missing the last eight games of the season on the injured reserve list.

Baker will compete for playing time with Doug Jolley who was acquired from the Raiders last year and second year man Joel Dreessen who showed promise last season in limited playing time during Baker's absence.

The Jets made one other move today by signing rookie free agent Micheal Warren.

Warren (6’1” - 249), a project, was a LB in college playing for both North Carolina State and Division I-AA Elon College who will be converted to FB by the Jets coaching staff.
