Jets Insider.com has learned that unrestricted free agent backup C/G Jonathan Goodwin has signed with the Saints.

The versatile lineman was originally a fifth round pick of the Jets in 2002 out of Michigan and has provided depth at both center and guard.

Goodwin started 10 games for the Jets last season mostly in place of Pete Kendall at guard after Kendall moved to center when Kevin Mawae was injured.

The Jets let Goodwin become an unrestricted free agent after the season and according to an exclusive conversation today between Jets Insider.com and Goodwin, the Jets attempted to re-sign him but the Saints' offer was more lucrative.

Assuming Kendall stays at center with Mawae gone, next on the depth chart at guard is Steve Morley who was acquired from Green Bay last September and has never started an NFL game. Morely at 6'7" and 330 Lbs. is a massive specimen but very raw.
