Former Bill Trey Teague was the best avialable FA center on the market.
Jets Insider.com has learned that the team has signed free agent center Trey Teague formerly of the Buffalo Bills. Teague will replace the departed Kevin Mawae who was released last month.
The 31 year old Teague is an eight year veteran who has played in Buffalo since 2002. Prior to the Bills, he played his first four seasons with Denver. Contract details were not available but ESPN is reporting that Teague was signed to a two year deal.
The move means that Pete Kendall, who played center last season after Mawae was injured, will move back to guard. The team still has a void at tackle with the departure of Jason Fabini and may use their first pick in this month’s draft to select behemoth Virginia tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson.
Teague is a versatile player and good blocker who should definitely help the Jets re-built line.
