With just a day left before players are required to report for training camp, Jets has learned that the team has agreements in principle with their remaining unsigned draft choices, Tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Center Nick Mangold and Quarterback Kellen Clemens.

Ferguson's deal was confirmed by the team. Mangold and Clemens' deals have not been officially announced but several Jets sources are confirming the agreements. No monetary details were available at press time.

With the signings, Mike Tannenbaum starts his tenure with no rookie holdouts. His preadecessor, Terry Bradway had no holdouts in his six years as the team’s GM. With Ferguson and Mangold likely becoming instant starters on the Jets offensive line, it was extremely important that the team completed these deals.

Ferguson (6’6” – 312 LBS), from the University of Virginia and locally from Freeport LI, was the team’s top choice with the number 4 choice in the 1st round. He’s expected to be an instant starter on the left side of the Jets line which used to be occupied by Jason Fabini who was released earlier this year.

Mangold (6’3-300LBS) was also selected by the Jets in the first round with the 29th pick that was obtained from Atlanta in the John Abraham trade. He was the highest rated center in the draft and is a quick, explosive player off the line who is a talented disciplined blocker. Mangold’s stock soared following an excellent Senior Bowl, He was a three year starter for the Buckeyes and won All-Conference honors as a junior and senior.

After releasing former Pro-Bowl center Kevin Mawae in March, the Jets signed former Bills’ center Trey Teague soon after. Teague was expected to be the starter but he broke his ankle in May is expected to miss significant time in training camp. With Teague out, Mangold will be thrown right into the fire as the starter.

Clemens (6’2”-224 LBS) was selected by the Jets in the second round with the 48th overall pick. A three year starter for Oregon, Clemens was rated by some draft experts as high as the 4th QB in the pool this year. His scouting report touts him as a high percentage pass completer with excellent faking and timing skills. On the negative side, he needs work on his intermediate to long passes as well eluding pass rushers. He’s said to be a hard worker and a good leader on the field. He completed 60% of his passes last season before fracturing his ankle in his 8th start and missing the remainder of the season. Clemens has impressed the Jets so far with two excellent minicamps showing great poise, leadership and a great arm. If veteran QB Chad Pennington is unable to return to the lineup after two shoulder surgeries, Clemens is a dark horse to become the Jets starter.

Players report to camp Thursday afternoon and the first practice is on Friday at 8:45AM.
