As players reported to Hofstra today, the Jets announced that in addition to C Trey Teague, the Jets will start camp with veterans Curtis Martin and Justin McCareins on the physically unable to perform list. Jets Insider.com also found out why.

RB Martin and WR McCareins will not be ready to practice when the Jets begin tomorrow. Although the Jets did not give any details about why they were placed on the list, JI has learned that Martin is still not ready to go after off-season knee surgery. His timetable is not known, but you can be sure that the team will wean the 33 year old back slowly. Without a sure viable replacement, the team is hoping for a productive year from the future Hall of Famer.

A source close to the team told Jets Insider that McCareins injured his foot during the June minicamp and is still not recovered from the injury.

Teague, who was signed as a FA from Buffalo this off-season to replace Kevin Mawae, broke his ankle during organized team activities in May and it’s unknown when he will return. Rookie Nick Mangold is expected to be the starter in Teague’s place.

The team also announced that rookie DB Rayshun Reed was also placed on the PUP list and FB Luke Lawton was waived. The team also signed OL Pete McMahon who spent last season on the Browns’ practice squad.

The Jets begin their first day of camp tomorrow with two practices at 8:45AM and 5:30 PM, both open to the public weather permitting.
