With the uncertain future of slow healing RB Curtis Martin looming over the team’s head, the Jets took a step to regain some depth by trading for Cleveland RB Lee Suggs for CB Derrick Strait.
The trade, a straight up deal, confirmed by the Browns fills needs for both teams with Cleveland losing CB Gary Baxter to a shoulder injury this past weekend in their pre-season opener against Philadelphia.
Suggs, originally a fourth round pick of the Browns in 2003 from Virginia Tech had high expectations with the Browns but was often injured and eventually lost the starting job to Rueben Droughns. His best season was in 2004 when he rushed for 744 yards.
Strait, a third round choice of the Jets in 2004 out of Oklahoma but never was able to crack the starting lineup.
