Ending a whirlwind of activity before their final pre-season game against Philly, the Jets signed veteran CB Hank Poteat and traded for former Jets DT Bobby Hamilton from Oakland who last played for Gang Green in 1999.

The moves adds two more former ex Patriots players to Coach Eric Mangini’s roster. The 5’10”, 195 LB Poteat was cut by New England on Tuesday after two seasons with the Patriots. He was originally a third round pick for the Steelers in 2000 and played his first three years in Pittsburgh. In five seasons he has 52 tackles and one sack. Poteat has also returned kicks during his career.

Hamilton, a 6’5” 285 LB DT was reportedly traded to the Jets for a late round undisclosed draft choice in next year’s draft. Mangini is very familiar with Hamilton after he coached him during his first stint in NY (1996-99) and four seasons in New England (2000-2003) where he won 2 Superbowls with the Pats. He’s played the last 2 seasons in Oakland and started his career Seattle in 1994. Hamilton has a good reputation as a run stuffer and should add some needed depth to the Jets defensive line.
