In a competition hailed as the “World’s Tallest Tailgate” 67 stories above Manhattan at Rockefeller Center’s “Top Of The Rock” observation deck, Jets Insider.com/Troop 16H smoked the competition as they were named Tailgating Kings.
The event, which was sponsored by the Jets, Weber Grills and Top of The Rock consisted of four top Jets tailgate parties chosen by the Jets, competing with a signature tailgating dish. The winner, judged by the crowd at hand and former Jets legend Greg Buttle would take away a brand new Weber gas grill and more importantly, the title NY Jets Tailgating Kings.
The invitation of Troop 16H was a no brainer as the Jets Insider.com weekly tailgate party has become legendary as the largest tailgate at the Meadowlands if not the entire NFL. Quantity though doesn’t necessarily mean quality and fierce competition ensued as all four groups showcased signature tailgating dishes. Troop 16H was at a bit of a disadvantage to start due to founder Randy Lee being absent on vacation. However, Jets Insider publisher Sean Deegan and a dozen or so regulars from the crew represented nicely.
Dishes ranging from Surf and Turf, bacon wrapped scallops and even decadent Bananas Foster were prepared on the grill for the crowd by the competing groups. In the end however, Troop 16H’s simple yet delicious marinated skirt steak rose above and beyond the competition as the dish that crowned Troop 16H tailgating kings.
The event for sure got the Jets faithful who attended revved up for the upcoming season. One thing we’ve learned over the years is that no matter how good or bad the team is, the tailgating is always Superbowl caliber.
