43 year old Vinny Testaverde was summoned from his easy chair for the second consecutive season today. However, the caller wasn't the Jets this time. Instead it was Bill Bellichick and bitter division rival New England on the phone.

Testaverde signed last September and started four games for the Jets after Chad Pennington and Jay Fiedler injured their shoulders in the same game.

He has been out of football since January when the Jets declined to re-sign him and it was speculated he would announce his retirement. There has also been rumors that he would re-join the Jets in some type of capacity after retirement.

Now, he will be backup to Pats QB Tom Brady who is rumored to be having shoulder problems and start on the depth chart as the third QB behind 2nd year man Matt Cassell. Testaverde had a tryout with New England in September but was not signed until today.

For the Jets last season, Vinny became the first player in NFL history to throw at least one touchdown pass in 19 straight seasons. He finished the year completing 60 of 106 passes for 777 yards with one touchdown and six interceptions. He also played for NY from 1998-2003.
