Jets Extend WR Cotchery's Contract

The Jets solidified their WR corps for years to come by extending the contract of Jerricho Cotchery.

Terms of the contract were not yet available except that it's a multi year deal.

Cotchery, entering his fourth season in the league, is an up and coming star in the NFL and had a break out season last year as he replaced Justin McCareins in the starting lineup. He finshed 2006 with 82 catches for 961 yards and six TD's.

In a released statement from the team, Head Coach Eric Mangini was pleased with the signing.

“Jerricho Cotchery exemplifies everything we are looking for in our players, said Mangini. “He is smart, tough, hardworking, selfless, competitive and football is important to him. During training camp, he took advantage of the opportunity to compete and became not only a starter but a key contributor to what the team was able to accomplish in 2006. I am pleased that Jerricho will remain with the Jets for years to come.”

In other news, as reported yesterday by JI, the team officially announced that RB Derrick Blaylock and DT Bobby Hamilton were released.
