Veteran FB Dairan Barnes was signed to replace the departed BJ Askew.
With the departure of fullback BJ Askew this winter, the Jets plucked a replacement from divison rival Miami by signing five year veteran Darian Barnes.
Barnes, started six games for the Dolphins last year but played in all 16 where he had no carries but caught three passes for 22 yards. The FB, known as an excellent blocker, was originally signed as an undrafted FA by the Giants in 2002 and has had stints with Tampa Bay and Dallas.
Askew became and unrestricted free agent on March 3rd and the Jets had no interest in resigning him. He inked a deal with Tampa Bay last week and joins fellow ex-Jets RB Jerald Sowell.
In other news, QB Patrick Ramsey's time as a free agent didn't last long. Ramsey signed with Denver yesterday to back up Jay Cutler. The deal was reportedly for two years for $5MM.
The Jets released Ramsey last week in a salary cap move. There was talk that the team may try to re-sign him, but our sources say the Jets had no further interest in the former Tulane star.
With QB's Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens on the roster, the team will likely sign another veteran QB before training camp starts.
