Smith, (6-4, 318) entering his fifth NFL season, signed with the Jets in September, 2006 and played in nine games. He was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2003 (3rd round - 78th overall) out of Memphis.

The team is also reportedly close to re-signing T Anthony Clement who started at RT all 17 games for the Jets last season. He became a free agent on March 3.
