Darrelle Revis is now a New York Jet. The move became official after the Jets made a shocking trade to move up to number 14 to get Aliquippa, Pennsylvania native. Revis is not only the big physical shutdown cornerback that the Jets are looking for to play opposite Andre Dyson, but Revis can also make plays on special teams.

Revis played his college football at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a semifinalist for the 2006 Jim Thorpe award which is given annually to the nation’s top defensive back. In that season Revis successful moved to the other side of the field, as in his final season with the Panthers he played on the right side instead of left side.

During his time in Pittsburgh, Revis was mainstay in the Panthers backfield. As a senior Revis started 34 of 35 games He became the first player in Panther history to return interceptions for touchdowns in consecutive games. He amassed 129 tackles (102 solo), eight interceptions and he returned two punts for touchdowns.

He was named first-team Freshman All-American by the Sporting news and in his next year he earned All-Big East Conference accolades, which is something he would earn in 2006.

Revis has some similarities to a face the Jets now all too well. Like Revis, future Hall of Fame running back and former Jet Curtis Martin is also calls Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home. And similar to Martin, Revis had a standout career in high school.

Revis played quarterback, running back and wide receiver as well as corner back and kick returner during his senior season at Aliquippa High School. He was named the Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AA and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review 2003 Player of the Year.

Along with playing football Revis was an outstanding basketball player in high school. He led his team WPIAL Class AA Championship as he averaged nearly 23 points per game. He was named to the Pennsylvania Class AA All-State Basketball team, along being a member of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “Fabulous Five” squad.

But as Revis comes to New York, he won’t be called on to shoot hoops. Revis, will team with Dyson to make a pretty formidable cornerback tandem for Gang Green. Dyson had great first season with the Jets last year, but he didn’t have great help on the other side of the field.

That will change with the arrival of Revis. Since his pro-day at Pittsburgh Revis has risen up the Jets draft board. Revis has great blend of size, speed and athleticism to make successful on the NFL level. Along with impressing the Jets with the way he carries himself off the field, General Manager Mike Tannenbaum and head coach Eric Mangini were also impressed with his punt return ability.

Hopefully for Jets fans they will be impressed by everything Revis does in a Jets uniform.
