OT Jacob Bender adds needed depth to the Jets offensive line.
After opting for defensive players with their first two picks of the 2007 NFL Draft, the New York Jets turned their attention to the offensive line in the sixth round on Sunday, selecting Nicholls State OT Jacob Bender with the to bolster the offensive line with the 177th overall pick.

Bender (6-6, 320 lb.)was a three-year starter at left tackle for Nicholls State, earning All-Southland Conference honors in all three seasons as well as being named All-American in his senior season in 2006. Bender also earned All-Southland Conference honors playing as a reserve in his freshman season.

During his impressive senior campaign Bender was the lone bright spot on an otherwise dreadful Nicholls State squad, not allowing a single sack of his quarterback all season.

With LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson set to hold down the Jets' starting left tackle spot for years to come, Head Coach Eric Mangini will probably try to use Bender to bolster the right side of the offensive line which was shaky at points in 2006. Bender also adds depth behind Ferguson at the left tackle position.
