Jets has learned that the team has placed team captain LB Jonathan Vilma on injured reserve, ending his 2007 season.

Vilma, who injured his knee last week against the Bengals was out of practice all week and despite little to no information from the Head Coach Eric Mangini, there was buzz that the injury could be serious.

The exact severity of the injury was still not known at press time but the fact that they have shut Vilma down for the season likely means that he will need some type of surgery.

In other news, the team announced they have activated LB Matt Chatham from the PUP list to the active roster. The team still has one open roster spot from the release of WR David Clowney eariler this week.

Check back to Jets for more details on this breaking story as it develops.
