Senior Bowl '09: Tuesday Evening Buzz
What's up with TE Chris Baker of the Jets? Who are the Houston Texans talking contract renegotiations with here in Mobile? And who did Bill Parcells sit down and interview extensively this afternoon? What underclassman was in Mobile today and who was he interviewing with? The answers to all of these question plus the players teams interviewed and met with on Tuesday at the Senior Bowl.
New York Jets tight end Chris Baker is likely to hit the streets as a free agent soon as the team will release him. Baker, who sat out the start of training camp last season demanding a new contract, is scheduled to make $9 million as part of the deal which was signed last year. This was the course Baker wanted to take as it all but assured the Jets would release him prior to the 2009 season.
The Houston Texans sat down with the agent for linebacker Zac Diles today and talked contract extension. The second year player from Kansas State comes off a terrific season in which he started eight games and posted 66 tackles.
Alex Magee so impressed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today the team plans to sit down extensively and interview the Purdue product. Buc scouts were scouring the hotel this afternoon searching for Magee and trying to track down his phone number.
Morgan Trent of Michigan was flown in today and will replace Mike Mickens at cornerback. Mickens of Cincinnati has been playing with an injury and decided to pack it in today.
Underclassmen Ricky Jean Francois of LSU was making the rounds today, introducing himself to scouts and general managers. We saw the big defensive tackle talk extensively with John Dorsey of the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are also set for an extensive interview with the junior.
Dolphins Guru Bill Parcells has been very active at the Senior Bowl since arriving. He was seen at weigh-ins on Monday; the first time that's happened in a while. Parcells also had a long and thorough interview with Alabama safety Rashad Johnson which went on for quite some time. Dolphin insiders here in Mobile feel Miami will hit the secondary hard and often in the upcoming draft.
