KEEPING PACE. The Jets inked the best FA LB on the market on Monday by inking former Cards LB Calvin Pace.
Continuing their whirlwind free agency frenzy, the Jets added another piece to their 2008 puzzle by signing former Cardinals LB Calvin Pace. The signing was confirmed by more than one source, including ESPN who reports the deal is for six years worth $42MM with $22MM in guranteed money.

Pace, a former first round pick by the Cardinals out of Wake Forest in 2003 (#18 overall), will take the place of recently traded LB Jonathan Vilma. Pace last year had 80 tackles and 6.5 sacks for Arizona.

Also, making official what JI reported on Friday, the Jets announced the signing of free agent guard Alan Faneca.

“Alan is regarded as one of the best offensive lineman in the NFL and we are fortunate to add him to our roster,” said Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum in a released statement. “We made our interest in him known from the beginning of free agency. In addition to Alan’s production on the field, we were just as impressed with the intangibles that he brings to the locker room as well as to the community.”

Faneca’s contract is reportedly worth $40MM over five years, with $21MM in guaranteed money.

“Alan has consistently played at a high level throughout his career,” said HC Eric Mangini. “He is a conscientious performer who is smart, physical and excels at playing in space. He enjoys playing the game and will be a source of leadership and toughness. I enjoyed spending time with him and am excited about the attributes that he brings to our team.”

Faneca told the NY media today that his decision to come to NY was an easy one.

“It was a gut decision to the overall feeling that I had, talking to Coach Mangini and getting a sense of a feeling for where the organization was going and heading.” said Faneca. “It just really felt like it was the right spot for me to be in with me and my family.”

With the signing of Faneca, Pace and the new contract given to acquired DT Kris Jenkins, the Jets have shelled out over $50MM in guaranteed money since Friday.

--The Jets also late today locked up former Patriots and Lions OL Damien Woody. The deal is reportedly for five seasons, worth $31MM with $11MM guaranteed. Woody, who has played C and G most of his career will likely be placed in the tackle slot that Anthony Clement occupied last season.

In other news, it looks like DT Dewayne Robertson is on his way to Cincinnati. Multiple sources are confirming that the Jets have agreed to a trade with the Bengals where Robertson would be moved for a surprising low 2008 fourth and fifth round draft pick. The trade is contingent on Robertson negotiating a new contract with the Bengals which has not been completed yet. Stay tuned on this one. If Robertson is moved, the Jets will re-coup over $8MM on this year’s cap. The compensation that is being mentioned is surprising as Robertson is a former first round pick and in the prime of his career.

--The NY Daily News is reporting that they are hosting Pats S Eugene Wilson tomorrow. Wilson is reportedly being wooed by the Bucs and Steelers as well.

--Pats FA CB Randall Gay who the Jets reportedly were interested in is officially off the market as he signed with the Saints yesterday.
