INSIDER SUNDAY LATE CAMP REPORT

Taking snaps without a defense, Brett Favre dropped one from OL Robert Turner. After some defense-less snaps, the Jets did some special teams work as P Ben Graham sent punts downfield to Leon Washington, Chansi Stuckey, and Darrelle Revis among others.
The offense then got back together and worked on pass routes without a defense. Favre threw passes to the tight ends into the end zone. Chris Baker dropped one and consequently had to run a lap. Baker certainly was not alone in his lap running, however, as he was joined by WR David Clowney, G Brandon Moore, OL Nate Garner, QB Brett Ratliff, OL Damien Woody, and RB Leon Washington.
The wide receivers later joined the tight ends before moving onto 7-on-7. TE Jason Pociask took a short pass and ran untouched for an 80-yard touchdown. S Abram Elam picked Ratliff during the 7-on-7, but Brett Junior—as he was referred to by a fan—made up for it when he threw a deep ball to WR Wallace Wright.
There was more special teams after the 7-on-7’s, which was a time to study for Favre. He was with the offensive line, his backups, as well as RB Thomas Jones and WR Laveranues Coles. Favre stood facing the offense, as if he was a linebacker, and intently studied the line’s every move.
During his reps without a defense, when mostly form and technique are drilled, Favre was seen speaking with a coach after most, if not all, of his reps.
Once back to working with a defense, Favre threw two incompletions from the 5-yard line. He wasn’t alone in his struggles though. Kellen Clemens overthrew WR Brad Smith in the corner of the end zone from 10 yards out, and a diving David Clowney missed a Brett Ratliff pass.
Favre got back on track, however, when he threw 20 yards to Stuckey, and then 25 yards to him, this time in traffic. Both plays were met with loud applause and were tied for catches of the day. He then threw a 10 yard touchdown to TE Dustin Keller.
The running game looked solid as RB Musa Smith took several screen passes for first down yardage along the sidelines. Washington took a shovel pass into the end zone from about 20 yards out, getting behind OLs Matt McChesney and Robert Turner and using them for all their worth.
In the final segment of the evening practice, Clemens and Favre took turns operating a 2-minute offense. They started down 24-16 from around their opponents’ 30. Favre was the only QB to score, but he failed on his 2-point conversion. All four of Clemens’ attempts were overthrows.
Comfortable at the Office
Brett Favre didn’t have his chinstrap fastened Sunday evening for most of his snaps. Instead, he had his strap undone and tucked in the back of his helmet. Maybe it’s just his style, but Jets fans ought to be happy about Favre’s comfort level thus far.
Upon beginning his lap, Leon Washington was heard mumbling a few expletives under his helmet.
Can’t Catch Poc!
After TE Jason Pociask ran 80 yards untouched for a touchdown, several players standing around yelled to the defense, “C’mon! Ya can’t catch Poc?” Pociask, normally a blocking TE, displayed his speed and elusiveness on the play.
Throwback change of heart?
Sources inside the team have told JI that the team is reconsidering it's NY Titans throwback day that they have planned for the home opener against New England on September 14. The team is scheduled to wear the old blue and gold NY Titans uniforms. Reportedly there has been a big backlash via telephone and e-mail to the Jets front office as the fans want Brett Favre's first home game in the traditional green and white uniforms. Although no final decision has been made, it's likely that the day will be rescheduled to a home game later in the season. Owner Woody Johnson is a big fan of the old uniform.
WR Marcus Henry (leg), DE Shaun Ellis (hand), and LB Jason Trusnik (undisclosed injury) all did not practice Sunday evening. The three worked with Strength and Conditioning Coach Sal Alosi. Henry’s right calf was wrapped, Ellis’ left hand was in a protective glove/brace, and Trusnik was wearing a boot on his left foot.
The team has one practice session scheduled for tomorrow at 1:30, open to the public. Be sure to check back for a complete report!
