7 Jets Named To Pro Bowl
By Jets Insider.com Staff
December 16th, 2008
Just a season after getting shut out in Pro Bowl voting, the NY Jets had a team record seven players selected for the league’s 2008 All-Star game in Hawaii, the most of any team in the NFL. Four of the selections are starters and another three have been named reserves.

The starters include RB Thomas Jones, who leads the AFC in rushing and broke a team record with 15 TD’s this season, G Alan Faneca, who goes for his eighth time, NT Kris Jenkins, who has been the cornerstone of the Jets resurgent run defense and KR Leon Washington, who leads the NFL in combined yardage and has six kickoff returns this year for 40 yards or more. This is Washington’s first selection.

Washington, in his third year, who was selected by the Jets with the third round Herm Edwards compensation pick from Kansas City, can’t wait to experience Hawaii.

“(I am) very excited, to say the least,” said Washington. “When you work really hard in the offseason and you really prepare yourself to play this wonderful game of football, to see this hard work pay off is gratifying. It’s really gratifying and with this award and with this accolade voted on by your peers, the coaches and the fans, I guess that speaks volumes of what special teams have meant to the New York Jets for so long.”

Reserves are QB Brett Favre, who is named for the tenth time, and newcomers C Nick Mangold, who will back up former Jets captain Tennessee’s Kevin Mawae and CB Darrelle Revis.

The Pro Bowl is on Sunday February 8th in Honolulu.
