Browns Hire Mangini as Head Coach

By Jets Insider.com Staff
January 7th, 2009
Only a week after being discarded by the Jets, the Cleveland Browns have confirmed that they have hired Eric Mangini as their next head coach, replacing Romeo Crennel.

ESPN is reporting the deal is for four years and a press conference will likely take place to make the official announcement tomorrow.

Mangini was fired by the Jets last week after three seasons of service and compiling a 23-25 overall record which included a late season collapse this year, winning only 1 of their last four games after an 8-3 start and missing the playoffs.

The Jets are going through the procsess of identifying and interviewing candidates to replace Mangini including Giants Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. However, no particular individual has yet been deemed as a favorite to get the job. Colts Defensive Coordinator Ron Meeks and former Ravens Head Coach Brian Billick are reportedly next on the Jets' interview list.
